The Place:
AMERICAN HERITAGE
SCHOOL

American Heritage School was founded in 1970 by
H. Verlan Andersen, a BYU professor and close friend
of President Ezra Taft Benson.  It was housed in an old
LDS chapel in Pleasant Grove for several decades.
Under the direction of Gaylord Swim, Chairman
of the Board, a beautiful new facility was opened in
September of 2002. Our LDS-HEA conference
was the
first large group to be hosted here.

Directions

The pioneers crossed the plains on foot.  Then came the train.  Today's travelers take a jet.  But everyone who wants to get to Homeschooling Zion has to cross the how-do-I-do-this plains!

Since our family was sent in the advance party 30 years ago and we are now into our second generation of homeschooling, we've watched it all and we've tried most of it.  It is our goal in this Conference to quickly jettison the world's cumbersome methods, fly lightly across those plains, and connect our home schools directly with a flow of learning from Deity to our children.  This is true Saintly education, the family organization functioning at it's best.

We promise you a spiritually uplifting day as you join with several hundred like-minded people and learn the most gospel-based information we can find.   We're looking now beyond the jet to the very angels who will guide us to light and truth.

Doors Open and Registration 8:30
Program 9:00 - 6:00
Lunch Break 1:00

To prepare for the conference, you may want to learn more about the speakers and read
some of their works.  You may also want to listen to the tapes of last year's program.

Surviving Satan's Attacks
Daren, Barbara & Parker Jensen

Primary Children's Hospital said Parker Jensen would die within two weeks without chemotherapy.  The Jensen's wanted a second opinion.  The State tried to take Parker into custody and Darren to jail.  All parents have fears, especially homeschoolers (although we are actually safer in some ways).  How do we protect ourselves?  How do we survive -- physically and spiritually -- when an arrow hits us?  How do we help each other?
Read the Jensen story here.

The Lord Can Only Teach an
Inquiring Mind

Joyce Kinmont
founder, LDS Home Educators Assn.
homeschooling mother
& grandmother

The Gospel of Jesus Christ was restored to the earth because a young boy had a question.  All significant learning takes place in response to questions.  How do we merge worthy core knowledge with child-lead, discovery learning?

Bringing Excitement and Passion
to Home School

Jolynn & Derek Hegsted

Jolynn will tell us how she actually homeschools her children.  Derek will tell us how he turned his back on Hollywood to raise a family and how he teaches his children to prepare themselves spiritually and educationally for the Lord's service.  Derek will also display his latest painting, Christ in Gethsemane

Home schooling is such an obvious answer to the problems of high taxation and overcrowded schools, why doesn't everyone see it?  Sutherland has some legislative ideas that will interest and amuse you.

Encouraging the Inquiring Mind:  Learning by Doing
Ritchie Kinmont
Inventor,
Designer,
Homeschooled father of three sons

Last year Ritchie spoke about "Daddy Fun Nights" with his boys.  This year he'll show you a few of their projects, including their soap-making business, and share a few ideas about learning by doing.

Brother Oliver DeMille will not be with us this year.  He will be speaking at a three-day home school conference in California.  We will miss him, but we're delighted at this opportunity for him to teach thousands.  If you haven't read his book, A Thomas Jefferson Education, you can learn about it and read some articles here.

Our dear friend and mentor, Dr. Reed A. Benson, Patriarch of the LDS home school movement, is doing well but says he has retired for good.  We'll leave his information up for those who have heard and loved his past messages.
