Wheat for Meat video, with Sheri Cluff (from LDS-HEA newsletter #31)
Did you read the excellent article on sprouting in the October 1999 Ensign? Interestingly, shortly thereafter the news media reported a story about E.coli infected sprouts. If you read Diet Decisions you know that E.coli is a live bacteria and must be fed animal tissue. It doesn't drink water. It's killed by air and sunshine. It lives in animals, so the most likely place to get it is in meat or dairy. God gave us a plant-based diet and put strong restrictions on the eating of flesh. Sprouts are an inexpensive source of fresh vegetables, and may be crucial in an emergency.
A newspaper headline says "Scientists battle E. coli at its source—in cattle." They're looking for a technology to kill the E.coli inside the cow's stomach—something akin to trying to change the course of the mighty Mississippi.
President Benson offered a more simple solution: eat like Daniel.
Here's a way to avoid worry about E.coli while you save tons of money. We
visited Sheri Cluff in her Mapleton, Utah, home where we videotaped—and tasted—her
dinner preparations. Sheri soaks her wheat until it sprouts, then runs it
through a meat grinder. It looks like ground beef, but there's no fat to plug up
arteries, no blood to make a mess on the counter, no E.coli contamination so
it's safe to handle without gloves. Sheri seasons the wheat in various ways and
makes patties, loaves, and several other delicious dishes. Here's a cooking
class that may change your life!
