History History is best taught through the biography of the good and great people who made it. It is helpful for a child to have a timeline, either in a notebook or along a wall at eye height. The timeline should be marked off for the 4,000 years (A.D.) from Adam & Eve through the Birth of Christ, and the 3,000 years (B.C.) since. We are now living in the beginning of the third thousand years. Our suggestion is that every adult American Latter-day Saint should prepare himself to be a better Saint and to teach his children by beginning with a study of the life of George Washington, the Father of our Country. Why? Because once you learn to love Washington and understand his greatness and the role Heavenly Father assigned to him, you will have a desire to learn something of the Founding Fathers and the foundation documents they gave us (The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution of the United States, and George Washington's Farewell Address). That will lead you to an understanding of The Restoration and the role of The Prophet Joseph Smith, perhaps the greatest mortal who ever lived. Be careful to study all history from original sources where possible and from trusted sources based on original sources. Much of history has been rewritten to advance the socialist agenda in today's secular world. We particularly recommend Wholesome Books and NCCS as dependable sources of materials.
